Instructor Job Requirements

An INSTRUCTOR is responsible for conducting the classroom and clinical training under the general direction of the approved school director or be the approved school director conducting the classroom and clinical training.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The school shall only employ an Instructor who:
  • Be of good reputation;
  • The instructor must have at least a Master's, Bachelor's, Associate's or LVN certificate.
  • Hold a current license or privilege to practice nursing in the state of Texas.
  • Have a minimum of one year of related practical practice in the subject to be taught within the ten years immediately preceding employment by the school.;
  • Have been actively employed in nursing for the past three years or have advanced preparation in nursing, nursing education, and/or nursing administration.
  • Have had three years varied nursing experiences since graduation
  • Has completed a course in teaching adults or have experience in teaching adults or supervising nurse students ; and
  • Non-nursing faculty are exempt from meeting the faculty qualifications as long as the teaching assignments are not nursing content or clinical nursing courses.
The school shall only employ a waived Instructor who:
  • Holds a current license or privilege to practice as a vocational or registered nurse in the State of Texas;
  • Has been actively employed in nursing for at least two years in the last three years;
  • If not actively employed in nursing for the past three (3) years, the prospective faculty’s advanced preparation in nursing, nursing education, and nursing administration shall be considered; and
  • Prior relevant nursing employment.

DUTIES:

An INSTRUCTOR shall:
  • Conduct the classroom training and oversee the clinical training according to the curriculum established by the TWC, Board of Nursing in the State of Texas, and the school;
  • Monitor student progress and maintain records;
  • Take daily student attendance; and
  • Report any complaints to the school director.
  • Supervise students in the clinical learning experiences.
  • Supervise all initial nursing procedures in the clinical area and ascertain that the student is competent before allowing the student to perform an actual nursing procedure independently.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate curriculum.
  • Participate in the development, implementation, and enforcement of standards/policies for admission, progression, probation, and dismissal of students, and participation in academic guidance and counseling.
  • Other duties as assigned
