Contact Hours vs. Clock Hours

Clock hours: This is the language in the DADS State Rules. A clock hour is the actual time in class by the clock. For example, if it takes you from 2pm-3pm to sit in a class, that is one clock hour. The state regulations in Texas define clock hours as a requirement.

Contact hours: The BNE states a RN in Texas must have 20 contact hours per each license renewal period with so many hours being in Type I activities. All of our classes on line and live provide Type I hours. If contact hours are awarded. A nurse would need contact hours if they want the class to count towards license renewal.

If a student wants a certificate for clock hours to meet DADS requirements, i.e. 8 hours before appointment as an Administrator or Alternate and they also want contact hours for the same course to count towards their RN license renewal, then email our support line in the on line class and we will make sure you get both certificates.
