Training and Competency Evaluation

Finding ways to reduce costs and still meet state, federal, JCAHO, and OSHA regulations can be difficult. We provide an affordable, outsourced solution for required classes and competency evaluations at our Training Center or on site. We also offer in-service education on a wide range of topics.

You can register for most courses by checking our course schedule for information on when each class is offered, and then filling out the registration form. Home Health & Hospice Continuing Education Training Courses

Coding Class (5.6 contact hours) - Learn correct diagnosis coding practices for home health and discuss issues related to PPS and the OASIS.

Complaints and Satisfaction Surveys (1.0 contact hours) - Find out how to distinguish between a complaint and an incident and identify the regulatory requirements for complaints and incidents.

Community Based Alternative (CBA) Program (3.7 contact hours) - Understand the licensure and contract requirements for participating in the Community Based Alternative (CBA) Program.

Documentation (2.0 contact hours) - This class is focused on proper documentation for home health agencies. We also have documentation classes available for other health care settings.

Hospice 101 (8) - An educational course that covers the rules and regulations for hospices, provides a documentation overview, and presents a general overview of how a hospice is managed.

How to Run Your Home Health Agency (4 contact hours) - An administrative overview conducted in a group setting at our Training Center. This 6-hour course includes morning and afternoon sessions.

Management and Evaluation (1.8 contact hours) - Identify and assess patients who are in need of skilled nursing visits for management and evaluation of their health care needs.

Quality Assurance Programming - Long (3 contact hours) - An overview of mandatory federal and state regulations and how to improve client care. There are both a 2- and 4-hour version of this popular course.

Quality Assurance Programming - Short (2 contact hours) - An overview of mandatory federal and state regulations and how to improve client care. There are both a 2- and 4-hour version of this popular course.

Separate Entities (1.1 contact hours) - An in-depth class on how to establish a separate entity for certified home health agencies, how a separate entity is surveyed, and how to be successful in establishing a separate entity.

Supervising Nurse Certification Course (17.7 contact hours) - In-depth instruction in state regulations, federal regulations, Palmetto guidelines, and V-Coding; how to perform an admission, discharge, and transfer of a patient; how to document and complete care coordination, a Plan of Care, Medication Profiles, OASIS documentation; and more.

Wound Care Documentation (1.5 contact hours) - Learn how to conduct and document a complete skin assessment, measure a wound and document your measurements properly, identify the difference between a pressure sore and a stasis ulcer, document wound care that has been performed, and write complete and proper treatment orders for a wound.

Texas Board of Nursing (TBON) Approved Activity

Jurisprudence (7.7 contact hours) - This 1-day course has been designed to increase your knowledge of legal aspects of nursing and the Nurse Practice Act in the State of Texas. This activity meets Type I criteria for mandatory continuing education requirements toward re-licensure as established by the BNE for the State of Texas.

Legal Nurse Consultant Education Training Courses

Deposition Preparation for Legal Nurse Consultants (28.8 contact hours) - This 4-day class will cover Preparation, Discovery & Expert Witnesses, the Deposition Process and how to prepare a deposition, organizing documents and creating tables, grids and powerpoints. An actual client case that Compliance Review Services, Inc. has reviewed will be used for the class to prepare some of the steps for a deposition.

Legal Nurse Consultant Marketing & Report Writing (21.9 contact hours) - During this intensive 3-day seminar, the LNC will learn to identify four key elements to successfully marketing their business, and be able to identify four key differences between an expert report and an affidavit. The LNC will be able to successfully review a sample case and prepare a 3–5 page affidavit with all required elements (Duty, Breach of Duty, Harm, Injury) as well as develop increased confidence in report writing skills.

The Inside Track to Becoming a Successful Legal Nurse Consultant (15.5 contact hours) - This comprehensive 2-day course covers Jurisprudence, and includes Personal Injury and Nursing Home cases, with real case files and professionals, including attorneys, walking you through the process of becoming a successful legal nurse consultant.

Additional Training Courses

First Aid Classes & Certification - Basic first aid course reviews burns, poisoning, heat and cold emergencies, sprains, strains, fracture, and much more. Course card is provided by Compliance Review Services. Course is 2 to 2.5 hours with video presentation, handouts, and lecture.

How to Write A Plan of Treatment for Home Health, Pediatrics, MDCP, CCP, Hospice

Intravenous Training - A 6-hour course covering anatomy, physiology of venous systems, pre-test, post-test, complication, legal and ethical issues, dosage calculations, and practicum on mannequins. Course certification and completion provided.

Online Classes

Home Health Quality Assurance Programming (1.9 contact hours) - This continuing nursing educational activity has been designed to stimulate and support Home Health providers and clinicians to improve the quality of health care. Opportunities to improve client care will focus on mandatory Federal and State Regulations such as: Clinical Record Reviews on a quarterly basis (Federal Regulation); Quality Assessment Performing Improvement (State Regulation); Adverse Event Outcome Reports (Federal Regulation); and Outcome Based Quality Improvement (Federal Regulation).


Separate Entities (1.1 contact hours) - This continuing nursing educational activity has been designed to educate surveyors and all home health agencies and its workers of the definition of separate entities and how to be identified as being a separate entity.


An Administrators Guide to Advance Directives (2 contact hours)- This continuing nursing online educational activity has been designed to educate administrators, designated alternate administrators, and new administrators on the importance of Advance Care Planning and different forms of Advance Directives available to individuals in the State of Texas.


Administrators in Texas State and Federal Law (5 contact hours) - This continuing nursing educational activity has been designed to educate administrators, designated alternate administrators, and new administrators on the recent changes in the state regulations for home health agencies. The purpose of this online activity is to educate participants on Federal and State laws governing home health agencies.


Complaints, Incident Reporting, & Surveys (1.4 contact hours) - This continuing nursing online educational activity has been designed to educate the learner on the regulatory requirements for Complaints, Incident Reporting & Satisfaction Surveys for Home Health and Hospices in the State of Texas.


OASIS (3.4 contact hours) - This continuing nursing online educational activity has been designed to support the educational needs of home health clinicians in achieving comprehension and accuracy in OASIS data collection using guidelines established by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).


Administrators in Texas “16” (8.5 contact hours) - The purpose of this 2 day presentation is to meet the training requirements as outlined in Ch. 97.259 of The Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS) for new Administrators/Alternates in the state of Texas. This course offers 16 clock hours of training that must be obtained within the first 12 months after becoming a first time Administrator/Alternate in the state of Texas.


Administrators in Texas “12” (2.7 contact hours) - The purpose of this online presentation is to meet the training requirements as outlined in Ch. 97.259 of The Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS) for Administrators and Alternate Administrators appointed prior to 12/1/06 in the state of Texas. This course offers 12 clock hours of training that must be obtained within 12 months of designation and annually per the regulations thereafter.


Wound Care Documentation (1.5 contact hours) - The purpose of this online presentation is to emphasize to nurses the importance of documenting proper wound and skin care. This online presentation also emphasizes that documentation is the pathway to appropriate treatment decisions, evaluating the progress of skin and wound healing, protection against litigation, and supporting payment decisions.


How to Admit a Patient onto Home Health (1.6 contact hours) - The purpose of this online presentation is to identify and understand the process of admitting a patient onto home health. This online presentation will emphasize State and Federal regulatory requirements for conducting an initial assessment of a patient being admitted onto Home Health, as well as the Medicare Condition of Participation regarding Comprehensive Assessments.


How to Market in Home Health (1.5 contact hours) - The purpose of this online presentation is to provide the learner with useful information on basic marketing principles, marketing research, marketing plans, and State and Federal Regulations and statues associated with marketing in Home Health.


Learning Hospice 101 (2.9 contact hours) - This continuing nursing educational activity has been designed to increase knowledge of Hospice Care among Home Care Professionals.

Learning How to Run Your Home Health Agency (1.6 contact hours) - The purpose of this activity is to educate nurses on what areas to be better informed of in home health, what is expected, and what will be surveyed. This will enhance the quality of care delivered, assist other nurses who are working for the agency, and will improve overall operation of the agency in maintaining compliance.

Competency Evaluations

Glucometer Nurse Competencies for JCAHO - We use the glucometer elite machine and can competency test on site or at our Training Center.

Nursing Bag Competencies - We will teach how to perform the nursing bag technique, provide a company policy, competency test the staff, and provide documentation of competency. 

Skilled Nurse Competencies - We have 18 skill stations and can do competency testing for adult and pediatric care.

TB Tests - We TB test with Mantoux (Lederle), 0.1 ml intradermally using the TINE method. We provide the forms, teaching guide, consents, and serum.
